Core–shell Particle Columns for Determination of Phenolic Acids
This work is an important milestone in development of SIC method, since it for the first time achieves separation of seven compounds with an excellent resolution. Three core–shell particle-packed reversed-phase columns: Ascentiss Express RP-Amide, Ascentiss Express Phenyl-Hexyl and Ascentiss Express C18 were compared by analyzing, at optimal conditions, a mixture of protocatechuic, syringic, vanillic, ferulic, sinapinic, p-coumaric and o-coumaric acids that are secondary metabolite substances widely distributed in plants.
The RP-Amide column provided the highest chromatographic resolution and achieved separation efficiency comparable to HPLC. This demonstrates the importance of right choice of stationary phase for high separation efficiency and follows the recent trends in development of fast separations.
